Winds Across the Water was commissioned by the Michigan City Municipal Band, Michigan City, Indiana, for its 157th season. The ensemble suggested that a water theme might be appropriate based on their performance venue being near Lake Michigan. During my research into the city itself I discovered several pictures of the Michigan City Lighthouse jutting into view against the horizon. The large melodic leaps and expansive sounds of the opening measures are inspired by that view. I also attempted to capture the feeling of standing on the edge of the water, with the wind blowing through my hair. Making purchases directly from this site benefits the composer the most.
