Join Bowling Green State University Bands as a commissioning partner for a work for Concert Band for performance with live motion graphics depicting the classic Christmas story “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. CONSORTIUM FAQ:
How much is the consortium buy in? $250 per institution/ensemble. What will I get? PDF Parts, Score, and video files for A Christmas Carol by Erika Svanoe and Erik Evensen. This will include access to a mock up to show audio and video timing. When will I get it? Music delivered by Sept. 1, 2026, video delivered Oct. 1 2026. BGSU World Premiere November 2026. Consortium partners will have exclusive performance rights for 13 months, from Dec. 1, 2026-Jan. 1, 2028. What will I need to perform this? A concert band, conductor, and video projection visible by both the conductor and the audience. Will I need to set up for a click track? No. Our intention is to make this as accessible and flexible as possible, with a few fermatas built into the piece to allow for some slight tempo variation. However, we may make an optional click track available. What are motion graphics? Still images that create the illusion of motion, set to audio. You can see examples of similar work in three of Erik's collaborations with composer Andrew Boysen: Star Crossed, Twilight of the Gods, and The Tale of the Headless Horseman. |
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR
Erik A. Evensen is a graphic designer, illustrator, graphic novelist, and educator whose creative work often reinterprets topics from history, mythology, and folklore. His work has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Graphic Design USA, and Nerdist.com. Erik is Professor of Design at the University of Wisconsin–Stout, where he is the Founding Director of the B.F.A. in Illustration. He was recognized with UW-Stout's Outstanding Teaching Award in 2022. His comics work has been called "innovative and groundbreaking" by Graphic Novel Reporter. His debut graphic novel, Gods of Asgard, has long been the definitive comics adaptation of the Norse Myths, and received a Xeric Award for artistic, scholarly, and literary merit. Additional comics industry credits include Ghostbusters and Back to the Future, both licensed properties from IDW Publishing. He is also an illustrator and graphic designer for board games, most recently the award-winning Distilled. A saxophonist, Erik performs with the Ludington Guard Band of Menomonie, Wisconsin and in the occasional pit orchestra, and played in marching, concert, and jazz bands at the University of New Hampshire. |
